Our refinery Systems offers total protection against corrosion and chemical influences such as spillages, condensation and Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI).

We provide protection that is durable, safe and sustainable. The systems were specially developed for the high safety standards of refineries, from risers to tank-bottoms, from tank-roofs to leak repair, from Linepipe and T sections to pipelines from Diameters of 3mm upwards to in excess of 4 500mm.


Risers

Riser pipes are critical components in offshore platforms, extending from the platform structure into the ocean floor. These pipes face significant challenges due to their exposure to seawater, salt, and oxygen.  Let’s explore the key points:

  • Susceptibility: The constant erosion and electrolytic charges from salt content contribute to various types of corrosion, including pitting.  The weld seams on riser piping are particularly vulnerable due to their exposure to seawater and the lack of heat treatment.

How Visco-Elastic Polyisobutene (PIB) protects risers:

  • Effective Protection: PIB is a flexible, self-healing material that adheres well to metal surfaces.  When applied to riser pipes, it forms a protective barrier that prevents water, oxygen, and corrosive agents from reaching the metal substrate.
  • Visco-Elastic Properties: PIB’s visco-elastic properties allow it to absorb stress and movement, making it ideal for offshore environments where risers are subject to wave-induced vibrations and thermal expansion.

Tank-bottoms, especially in aboveground storage tanks, face significant challenges due to their exposure to moisture, chemicals, and varying temperatures. This exposure weakens tank structures, leading to risks such as leaks and compromised integrity.

  • Key corrosion factors include:
    • Moisture and Contaminants: The ingress of moisture and external contaminants through gaps and spaces around the annular chime creates a corrosive environment around the tank’s base.
    • Filling and Emptying Stresses: During product filling and emptying, tank-bottom plates flex, drawing in more moisture and contaminants, exacerbating corrosion.
    • Airborne Chloride: Facilities near coastal areas face airborne chloride diffusion, further accelerating corrosion.

Structural steel corrodes through an electrochemical process that requires the simultaneous presence of moisture and oxygen. Visco-elastoc Polyisobutene provides a self-healing, protective barrier that prevents moisture and oxygen from reaching the steel substrate. Thus, safeguarding the structural steel from corrosion and increasing its longevity and operational safety.
